Radboud teaching hospital puts stop on Achmea patients

The Radboud teaching hospital in Nijmegen has imposed a ban on treating patients insured by Achmea for non-essential conditions to run until the end the year.

The patient stop follows a dispute over payments between the hospital and insurance company. The Radboud says Achmea failed to buy-in enough care for its clients and is refusing to come up with extra money to cover December.

The patient ban includes everyone with health insurance from Achmea’s brands, including Centraal Beheer, Agis, Interpolis, Zilveren Kruis, FBTO and De Friesland.

Children and people requiring emergency care will not be excluded from treatment, the hospital said.

Achmea, which has five million health insurance policy holders, recently announced it is shedding 4,000 jobs in an efficiency and cost-cutting drive.
