‘Kids’ should be abolished as a word, say Dutch language experts

‘Kids’ was the runaway winner of the Dutch lexiconographers’ association’s competition to find out which word people think should be abolished.

‘Unnecessarily hip’ and ‘pretending to be jolly but it’s English’ were some of the comments applied to ‘kids’ which took 40% of the votes in the final poll.

‘Yolo’ (you only live once) was in second place with 14% of the vote, followed by ‘swag’, used to mean self-assured, on 11%.
