Google wraps up a year of searching

Search engine Google has published its annual breakdown of Dutch online habits, which shows Facebook was again the Netherlands most popular search term.

Facebook was followed by Dutch online auction site Marktplaats, then YouTube, Hotmail, Google itself and weather site Buienradar.

The fastest rising search term was Paul Walker, the American actor who died in a car crash earlier this month. This was followed by Koningslied, the much-criticised Song for a King issued to celebrate the investiture of king Willem-Alexander.

The fastest rising image search was Zwarte Piet, followed by Willem-Alexander, Valentine’s Day, 2013, gefeliciteerd (congratulations) and bbq.

Prime minister Mark Rutte was the most commonly searched for politician, followed by Frans Timmermans (foreign minister) and Jet Bussemaker (education).
