Reprieve for four consulates scheduled for closure

Dutch consulates in Munich, Chicago, Antwerp and Milan are to remain open now a majority of MPs support a D66 plan to reduce planned consulate closures, broadcaster Nos reports.

‘The Netherlands needs the best diplomatic service in the world. This initiative will ensure the service to companies and Dutch nationals remains up to scratch,’ said D66 parliamentarian Sjoerd Sjoerdsma. ‘A good diplomatic service pays for itself.’

However, the consulate in the Japanese city of Osaka is still likely to close, the broadcaster said.
