Laptops outstrip pcs as Dutch homes become increasingly digital

Nearly all Dutch households now have a fixed or mobile internet connection and 45% have a tablet computer, according to new figures from national statistics office CBS.

At the same time, personal computers are declining in popularity. Five years ago, 83% of households had a desktop computer but this has now dropped to 69%.

Laptops have taken up the slack, the CBS figures show. Nearly eight out of 10 households now have a laptop, compared with 62% five years ago.

The CBS also says six out of 10 households with children have a tablet. Single people over the age of 45 are least likely to have an ipad or similar computer.
