Italian engineering group AnsaldoBreda has been give the green light to nominate a number of independent experts to research the problems surrounding high-speed train Fyra.

AnsaldoBreda and Dutch railway firm NS are embroiled in a number of legal battles over NS’s decision to break off its contract with the Italian firm and to suspend Fyra services between Amsterdam and Brussels.

The train maker had gone to court to demand the right to have problems with the Fyra trains assessed by independent experts. The courts have already refused to give AnsaldoBreda access to three technical reports drawn up on behalf of NS and its Belgian counterpart.

NS will be allowed to veto experts which it considers are not independent and the courts will ultimately decide who should carry out the research and what its terms of reference should be.
