The Netherlands ends Turkey’s World Cup hopes

The Netherlands ended Turkey’s hopes of qualifying for next year’s World Cup with a 2-0 victory in their final group match on Tuesday night.

The win means Oranje proceeds to the draw for next year’s tournament without losing a match and having conceded five goals in 10 matches. Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder scored the Dutch goals.

It is the third time in a row the Netherlands has qualified for the World Cup without losing a match.

However, the Netherlands, which is ranked ninth in the world by Fifa, will not enjoy a privileged position in the draw, the Volkskrant says.

This means Oranje could be confronted by countries such as Spain, Germany and Argentina in the group phase.

The top seven in the rankings plus host country Brazil are placed in separate groups.
