Russia wants detailed explanation of diplomat arrest

Russia has told the Netherlands it wants more information about the arrest of diplomat Dmitri Borodin before the end of next week, news agency Novum said on Thursday, citing the Interfax press bureau.

‘We expect our Dutch colleagues to give us a detailed explanation of what happened,’ Novum quotes a foreign ministry spokesman as saying.

Borodin was arrested at his home in The Hague last weekend after neighbours said he was mistreating his children.

Dutch foreign minister Frans Timmermans on Wednesday apologised for the arrest, saying as a diplomat Borodin should have been given diplomatic immunity.
