Many councils over-estimate income from car parks

Two out of three local councils are earning less than they expected from parking fees and in some places car parks are loss-making, according to local authority magazine BinnenlandsBestuur.nl.

The town of Hengelo, for example, may make a loss of €2m on parking fees this year, while Papendrecht’s income from parking is down €1m on forecasts.

Some councils are now putting up fees to counteract the shortfall, the website says.
