Construction giants pull out of building sector association

Two of the Netherlands’ biggest building companies are pulling out of the construction sector Bouwend Nederland, saying they are unhappy with its strategy for dealing with the crisis.

Unless the association changes its approach and introduces reforms, Heijmans and VolkerWessels will tear up their membership from 2015.

‘We want the association to better meet our wishes and expectations,’ a spokesman for VolkerWessels said.

Former economic affairs minister Maxime Verhagen was appointed chairman of the group earlier this year but this is not a reason for the pull out, the spokesman said.
