Albert Heijn gets personal with its bonus card

The Albert Heijn supermarket chain is to issue a new bonus card later this year which will be more personal in the offers made to customers.

For instance, someone who buys a lot of pasta or pizzas will receive offers on those products, Nos television reports.

Albert Heijn has been able to access customer information collected on the bonus card for some time, but said it would not do so following protests from the Dutch consumers’ organisation Consumentenbond.

According to the supermarket chain, customer information can now only be accessed if the customer has activated the card via internet.

The new bonus card will be similarly protected and it will be possible to choose an anonymous card, Albert Heijn says.

The old card will no longer be valid at the beginning of 2014.
