Foreign affairs chief Frans Timmermans is most trusted minister

The most trusted member of the cabinet is foreign affairs minister Frans Timmermans, according to a new survey

He came out ahead of his colleagues in a poll of 27,000 people conducted on Tuesday by current affairs tv programme EenVandaag.

Timmermans scored 36% and is seen as professional and honest. Second is finance minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem on 30%, followed by justice minister Ivo Opstelten on 28%. The first two are both Labour ministers.

There are 13 ministers in the cabinet and at number 11 is prime minister Mark Rutte. He is trusted by 16% of the respondents.

Historic

Trust in the cabinet as a whole is at an historic low. Immediately after the election in September 2012, 42% of voters had confidence in the new cabinet. That figure has now dropped to 14%, according to the poll.

Among supporters of the two coalition parties, 18% of Labour voters trust the cabinet as do 31% of VVD Liberal voters.
