High-speed train maker on the offensive with open letter to rail users

Italian train builder AnsaldoBreda took a full page advert in a number of Dutch newspapers on Thursday, stating that the Fyra high-speed train can still be made a success.

In the ‘open letter to all train users’, chief executive Maurizio Manfelotto says that if the NS quickly starts working together with the Italian firm ‘we will have enough trains to start the service within six months’.

The letter comes a day after the state-owned Dutch railway firm said it would also hold AnsaldoBreda’s parent company Finmeccanica responsible for the losses incurred because of the Fyra problems.

Fyra trains were suspended in early January after snow and ice damaged three trains. The NS and Belgian rail company NMBS blame the poor quality of the trains; AnsaldoBreda blames poor maintenance.
