Feyenoord challenges tax office over extra charge on high salaries

Rotterdam football club Feyenoord is planning to take legal action against the government for making it pay an extra tax on high earners’ salaries for a second year.

This year all employers had to pay a one-off ‘crisis tax’ of 16% on the salaries of staff earning more than €150,000 a year. But last week the government announced it would be imposing the tax for a second year.

Feyenoord director Eric Gudde has already made a formal protest about the charge to the tax office and says he will fight it in court if necessary.

‘Companies were originally told the crisis tax was a one-off. But if as a government you come up with it again, you are not trustworthy,’ Nos television quotes him as saying.

The tax will hinder Feyenoord’s efforts to get its finances in order and means the club will not be able to fill some vacancies, he said.
