Dutch football clubs earn record income from selling players

With just a few hours to go before the close of the football transfer window, Dutch clubs have earned over €100m from selling players, according to website transfermarkt.de.

In total, Eredivisie clubs have sold players for €143m and bought players for €31m, the website says. This gives the clubs a profit of €112m, which is a record.

Eindhoven side PSV earned the most – almost €29m – selling Dries Mertens to Napoli and Keven Strootman to AS Roma among others. Ajax has earned €20m and Vitesse €23m, the website said.

The most expensive player to go was Christian Eriksen, sold by Ajax to Tottenham Hotspur for €13.5m.  Adam Mahler’s €8m transfer from AZ to PSV was the biggest buy.
