Scheveningen’s Kurhaus hotel is up for sale

The Kurhaus hotel in Scheveningen, which first opened its doors in 1885, has been put up for sale by its owners Steigenberger Hotels.

The Kurhaus, which still dominates the Scheveningen sea front, is rumoured to be in financial difficulty. It has been owned by the German hotel group since 1979.

The hotel was hard hit by the shift towards package sunshine holidays and was partly demolished and totally refurbished in the 1970s

The Kurhaus is not the only Scheveningen attraction looking for a new owner: the pier is also up for sale. It was declared bankrupt in January after its owners, the Van der Valk catering owner failed to find a buyer.
