Public prosecutor shelves Sarin gas probe for lack of evidence
Justice ministry officials have abandoned their investigation into an alleged attempted sale of the nerve gas Sarin because of a lack of evidence.
Four people were arrested in late March in connection with a hunt for a consignment of the nerve gas in a suburb of Maastricht.
The four, who ranged in age from 21 to 52, were released in mid-April after a court ruled there was no evidence against them to merit keeping them in custody.
Police spent an entire weekend searching for the gas after a tip-off that sarin was being offered for sale. Despite an intensive search, involving helicopters and cutting down trees, no traces of the nerve gas were found.
