Dutch bankers sixth in European pay ranking, Britain leads the way

A total of 36 executives at Dutch banks earned more than €1m in 2011, according to figures from the European bank regulator EBA.

Top of the ranking is Britain, where 2,436 bankers took home more than €1m in pay, bonuses and pension payments. Germany was second with 170 and France third with 162.

Spain (125) and Italy (96) complete the top five.

In terms of the total pay package, the Netherlands is in 12th place, with an average of €1.48m per top banker. Spain leads that list, with an average remuneration deal of €2.44m. The average British pay package totalled €1.44m.

The EU is in the process of trying to limit banking bonuses to one year’s salary. The new rules should be implemented in 2014, news agency ANP said.
