Blank tv screens loom for football fans

The new football season is set to begin with no live television coverage, news agency ANP reports on Thursday.

The new season begins on August 1, but US broadcasting company Fox, which owns the rights, is still in negotiations on financial agreements with Dutch cable companies, ANP says.

Fox, owned by media magnate Rupert Murdoch, bought a 51% stake in Dutch football channel Eredivisie Live last year and is launching a new television station showing sport, films and series.

No results

Fox, which has to make individual agreements with each cable operator, has been in negotiations about the fees it will pay all summer, so far without results, says ANP.

According to the news agency, Fox admits it has a problem but is optimistic agreements will be reached in time.
