Almere International school to remain open, council foots rent bill

Almere’s international school is to remain open in a deal agreed between the school board and city council.

Pupils and parents occupied the school last week after being told a day before the school holidays it would not reopen after the summer break. The school has some 200 pupils aged 12 to 19.

The running of the school will be taken over by the Het Baken school group and the city council is to pay the rent of the building for a four-year period at €40,000 a year.

‘The school’s ministry of education licence is no longer in danger,’ a council spokesman told news agency ANP.
