Trade surplus declines by €400m in April as exports fall 2.7%

Dutch export volumes to the rest of the world fell 2.7% in April, the first time in 18 months that exports have declined, the national statistics office CBS said on Friday.

Exports are considered one of the main motors of the Dutch economy. A decline in exports to non-EU countries accounted for the bulk of the drop.

Imports were also down marginally, the CBS said. In total, the trade surplus fell by €400m to €3.5bn compared with April 2012.
