Dutch astronaut André Kuipers is to receive the prestigious Russian Order of Friendship.

The award will be presented to him by president Vladimir Putin on July 3 to mark the longest ever European manned space flight.

Kuipers spent six months on the ISS international space station last year, returning to Earth on July 1.
