State to stop funding religious education in primary schools

The government is planning to slash spending on religious education in primary schools as part of a €200m package of savings, RTL news reports on Thursday.

The package of measures is due to be presented to parliament later on Thursday.

Sources also told the paper that student and school pupil organisations LAKS and LSVB face a 10% subsidy cut, as does the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences.

The Montesquieu Institute, which researches European parliamentary history, will no longer be subsidised by the government at all.
