More workers are worried about their job

The number of workers worried about their job has doubled to 32% since 2007, the year before the financial crisis began.

The figures from research institute TNO and the central statistics agency CBS show that the number of people worrying about job security has increased nearly every year since 2007. In 2012 the increase was 6% year-on-year.

The 50 to 60-year-olds are the biggest worriers – with 40% saying they fear for their jobs. But they are also most likely to be happy at work. Three-quarters enjoy their jobs, compared with 67% of workers as a whole.

The oldest and youngest workers are least concerned about their employment. Some 23% of the over 60s worry about losing their job and of those under 20, just 17% are concerned about job security.
