Dutch teens get less financial help from their parents

Dutch secondary school pupils have an average of €118 a month to spend, up €15 on two years ago, according to the family spending institute Nibud.

Four years ago, teenagers had some €144 a month in disposable income.

The new survey shows four in 10 teenagers have a job of some kind and 88% get pocket money from their parents.

Parents, however, are less likely to pay for clothing, going out and mobile phones than they used to be. Only 17% of 17 and 18-year-olds get their mobile phone bill fully paid, half the figure of two years ago.
