Museum Weekend attracts record crowds

The Museum Weekend, during which museums open their doors for free to the public, attracted record crowds of 900,000 visitors.

The Maritime museum and technology museum Nemo in Amsterdam were at maximum capacity and several museums throughout the country attracted ten times as many people as in a normal weekend, the organisation said on Monday.

In 2012, the Museum Weekend attracted one million people, but more museums took part in the event. Then it was 500 museums, compared with 450 this year.
