British philosopher Alain de Botton to guest curate Rijksmuseum

British writer and philosopher Alain de Botton has agreed to be a guest curator at the newly renovated Rijksmuseum next year, museum director Wim Pijbes told the NRC.

De Botton is criticial of the way many museums organise their exhibits, Pijbes said. He prefers them to be organised along themes and periods rather than ‘The 19th Century’ or ‘The North Italian School’, Pijbes told the paper.

The Rijksmuseum reopens on Saturday after being closed for renovations for 10 years.
