Unusual archeological find in Gelderland

A large archeological stash of at least 15,000 objects has been found near the town of Buren in Gelderland, news agency ANP reports on Tuesday.

The discovery indicates there was a prosperous settlement on the site between the 8th and 10th centuries.

Archeologist Timo Vanderhoeven told website nu.nl the discovery is unusual as there are very few sites in the Netherlands which throw up such large finds.

Vanderhoeven says the large number of pottery shards fond point to a trading post. ‘Some of the pottery was imported,’ he said.

Among the other objects are coins, jewellery and grinding stones.
