Google gets Dutch royal seal of approval

Internet company Google has been awarded an ‘orange ribbon’ by the committee organising festivities around the investiture of King Willem-Alexander on April 30.

The award was made in light of the company’s ‘role in strengthening April 30 by allowing the Dutch to maximise the experience of the event via the web and by bringing people together online and offline.’

Organisations planning special events around the investiture can apply for an orange ribbon if their activity is ‘original, positive and authentic’.

Other awards have been made to the national book promotion council for its role in the distribution of a book about people’s wishes for the Netherlands, and the defence ministry for its plans to say goodbye to queen Beatrix with a novel newspaper ad.

It is not clear exactly what Google is planning to do on the day.
