Wilders' Australia trip in trouble: no speech location in Perth

Tuesday 19 February 2013

One of the speeches which Dutch anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders was hoping to give in Australia has been scrapped from the itinerary because no suitable location has been found, RTL news reports.

The broadcaster says Wilders’ speech in Perth has been dropped because no venue in the city is prepared to host the controversial Dutch parliamentarian.

Wilders has already given a news conference in Melbourne under tight security, although no protesters turned up. During the conference, Wilders reiterated his stand that Islam could not integrate into western societies. ‘Islam is totalitarianism ... Islam and freedom are incompatible,’ he said.

However, according to Australian news agency AAP, around 40 people turned up to protest outside the location for Tuesday night’s speech in Melbourne and tried to stop people entering the building.

Muslim and other organisations in Australia had earlier urged people not to protest but to ignore Wilders’ presence.

Wilders was invited to speak in Australia by the Q Society, which told Australian media the aim is to educate the country about Islam, not incite hatred. Wilders’ trip was funded entirely by individual donations from society members, spokesman Andrew Horwood said.

Wilders told Dutch broadcaster Nos at the end of last year he would step up his fight against ‘the biggest sickness’ in the Netherlands and internationally, ‘from Australia to America, from Switzerland to wherever.’

Although, Australia is a vast country, it is still not large enough to accommodate a mouth the size of,'Geert Wilders'. Yammer!

I recommend "The Coolbaroo Club". I know he prefers to mingle with real homegrown citizens rather than buitenlanders.

Where ever their is a problem with race issues Wilders will be there to stir it up even more.

I find it extremely sad that Wilders continues to cause issues and problems wherever he is, and therefore continues to damage the international reputation of this country. This is very bad time period, this deep recessionary period, to have this country put in any sort of bad light. We need all the positive stuff we can get, not Wilders causing controversy in Australia.

this guy is really sick, there is economy problem across the world, lesser job,and future uncertainty across the globe. to my surprise this lunatics still travelling around give speechs to incited hatred not only in netherland, but another country. i hope shouls better find nice thing to do.

The aim of "Q Society" was to educate people about the Islam. What better speaker could they have chosen than Geert Wilders, the Dutch national expert in the area of the Islam? Talking of not to incite hatred.

My political preference does not happen to be Wilders.

Mr. Wilders is free to give us his opinion and many of us appreciate his efforts. Australia, like the Netherlands, is a tolerant society, and we try not to stir the pot if this is not necessary. Many Muslims are good people, only the extremists cause problems. Our officials are aware of those and keep a keen eye on them and have no hesitation to send them back from where they came. Not just Muslims but any newcomer who doesn't adhere to the law.Mr. Wilders obviously misses his old Holland as no doubt many Australians miss their old culture too, but the world is forever changing and as he says,"let's remain vigilant".

Many Australians appreciate Geert Wilders' courage in making us aware of the negative aspects of Islam here. However the cancellation of venues for him to speak highlights the fear factor that exists here from Islamic radicals and fundmentalists. This confirms much of what he says.

Dear Z, I assume that there were people in Europe who called anti-Nazism protesters as "causing issues" and teasing Hitler. But we know the outcome from these "pacifying" ideas.

Marie-Louise: Australians miss their old culture too......which culture? Aboriginal culture!? Sure they do!

Geert Wilgers is a visionary. a man of great wisdom, a 21st Century Charles Martel. He only speaks the Truth. strange how the Political Correct cant see the Trojan Horse that is in their midst. The world is full of Idealists and apologists who cant see the reality of the situation - what is actually happening. You have been warned. Take heed of The Truth before its too late

Peter: I am sorry but I really have trouble understanding your comment, especially considering the fact that Wilders has been compared to Hitler on more than one occassion. I personally prefer peace and pacifism over discrimination, fear and embarrassing political moments for my country. But of course, everyone has their own idea of what a decent safe world - for everyone - should be.

By Z | 20 February 2013 5:33 PM

Dear Z,
I don't care about strange people who compare Mr. Wilders to Hitler. They don't understand the difference between nationalities (Jewish, Gypsy, Russian etc.) and ideologies (Islamic, Communist etc.). There is a big difference here: no one can change his or her race/origin and race/origin doesn't influence on one's ideas, but bad ideology can be changed and it DOES influence on one's ideas.

> I personally prefer peace and pacifism over discrimination

I also prefer this. But please first remove discrimination of people on sexual, national etc. basis from Islam and other dangerous ideologies.
How can you do this? This pacifying terrorists? This didn't work so far.
