Tax office to focus on deductibles
Wednesday 27 February 2013
The tax office will cast a close eye on deductions in this year's tax returns, particularly costs incurred in connection with mortgages, single premium annuities and healthcare, junior finance minister Frans Weekers said on Wednesday.
Each year the tax office announces in advance what items will come in for careful review after the April deadline.
This year, some four million people will be sent an automatically filled-in 2012 tax return, using information already available to the authorities. A further four million will be sent a partially completed document.
Nevertheless, people must be careful to check the information contained in their tax returns, Weekers said.
