Holland set to keep all its European parliamentarians

The Netherlands looks set to keep its 26 seats in the European parliament, although the official vote on the redivision of seats does not take place until March.

The redivision of seats is necessary because of Croatia’s entry into the European Union this summer.

In addition, the European parliament has agreed to reduce the number of Euro MPs to 751 after the elections in 2014. That is 15 fewer than at present.

Twelve of the member countries will have to give up one seat. Germany will lose three seats but still remain the biggest block.

Once the parliament has voted, it will be up to the member countries to accept the new division of seats.
