Eindhoven attack extradition postponed again

The decision on extraditing five youths wanted in connection with an attack in Eindhoven was postponed for the second time by a Belgian court on Tuesday.

The unprovoked attack by a gang of eight took place on January 4. A 22-year-old man was hit and kicked and suffered severe concussion and injuries to his face.

Five of the youths, aged between 17 and 19, live in and around the Belgian border town of Turnhout. The Dutch authorities want them back for questioning.

A Belgian judge agreed to extradite the youths in January but they went to appeal.

A decision was originally expected on February 2 but the Belgian court of appeal postponed its decision for three weeks. That decision has now been postponed again. The reason given is that more time is needed to consider the case.

Two of the other three youths who live in the Netherlands were on Tuesday released from custody where they had been held since their arrest. The third youth was released earlier this month.
