50Plus party leader fined for hacking

Friday 15 February 2013

Henk Krol, leader of the 50Plus political party, has been fined €750 for hacking into a medical information system while a provincial councillor in April 2012.

Krol was tipped off about a leak in the system used to store medical files by Brabant-based laboratory Diagnostiek voor U. Krol said he wanted to show how lax security on the site was because it was in the public interest.

The judge said he sympathised with Krol's aims but he should not have been so quick to go public with his findings.

Krol's party is currently riding high in the polls.

The government should be thanking him for finding a breach in security, not fining him for their mistake. It is not the inherent security risks that keep me from participating in the EPD's as much as the knowledge that the government will go to any length to cover-up real issues in this country. I have absolutely no faith in hearing the truth about most issues because lying is a way of life in the Netherlands, and the press seems to follow along most the time.

seems sensible. The public are much better off finding out these things slowly...
