13-year-old boy's death was suicide, say police

Wednesday 13 February 2013

The 13-year-old boy found dead in woods near Wassenaar last week committed suicide, police confirmed on Monday.

Police said last week they were looking at the suicide option. Now a post mortem and forensic tests have confirmed the boy killed himself. Police did not say how the boy died.

The body of Anass Aouragh was found last Thursday. He was reported missing on Wednesday after failing to return home from a job delivering leaflets.

His bike was found abandoned close to the woods where his body was found.

Media speculation since the death has centred on claims that Anass was bullied at school.

'BULLYING' I think we need to start a discussion on this! Anybody?

@Monika, bullying is rife here and nurtured by schools and later honed by student societies and hazing. It is condoned by the 'boys will be boys' loving smiles of parents, the vicious dogs unrestrained by proud owners, the blatently smug cartels, the in-crowds with 'jobs for the boys' in the workplace, the ethnic discrimination, aggressive drivers etc. Gentleness and tolerance are considered flaws in a boy here; a victim of bullying is considered to have deserved or caused the bullying. Bullying is not new, it is just not considered the bully's problem. Betcha no-one ends up in jail, just another tut-tut, we understand, but don't do it again.

I agree, Monika. Some children are so mean and some parents are just awful.
