RBS to cut a further 500 jobs in the Netherlands

Wednesday 02 January 2013

Royal Bank of Scotland is to shed a further 500 jobs in the Netherlands this year, taking its Dutch workforce to 1,000, the Parool reports.

By the end of 2013, the Scottish bank will have a workforce of around 1,000 in the Netherlands, compared with 3,500 before the takeover of ABN Amro in 2007, the paper said.

The 500 job losses form part of an earlier announced reorganisation, the bank's Dutch director Jan de Ruiter told the paper. The reorganisation has been prompted 'partly by the economic reality and partly by the consequences of the 2007 takeover,' he said.

But RBS will not be pulling out of the Netherlands and will remain active in 'what we are good at', De Ruiter said. This means 'serving big companies in terms of the capital markets, risk management and payment traffic.'
