MPs heading for Fyra hearing in Brussels ignore the train
Friday 25 January 2013
MPs planning to attend Monday's hearing in Brussels into problems with the Fyra high-speed train service between the Netherlands and Belgium plan to take the car, the Volkskrant reports on Friday.
'I don't want to run the risk of arriving late,' said Paulus Jansen, a Socialist MP and chairman of the Dutch parliamentary transport committee. He plans to drive to Belgium and pick up a local train to Brussels.
VVD parliamentarian Betty de Boer is doing the same. 'I am deliberately opting to go by car,' she said. 'I don't dare to take a slow train which will take hours.'
MPs from Belgium and the Netherlands will meet on Monday for a hearing into the problems surrounding the Fyra service, which was suspended last week.
