Daan and Emma are the most popular Dutch childrens’ names

Daan and Emma have hung onto the top spot in the social insurance bank’s annual ranking of most popular Dutch childrens’ names.


The SVB, which pays out child benefit, registers the names of all children born in the Netherlands.
Daan and Emma topped the list in 2011 and 2009 but were pipped at the post by Sem and Sophie in 2010.
Bram
The biggest riser in popularity last year is Bram, which rose from 16th to second place. Sem, Lucas and Milan complete the boys’ list.
After Emma, Sophie, Julia, Anna and Lisa are the most popular names for girls.
Last year some 176,000 babies were born in the Netherlands: 86,000 girls and 90,000 boys.
