Premier division clubs make a loss, but not as much as last year

The 18 clubs in the Dutch premier division (eredivisie) posted a combined loss of €15m last season, less than half the €35m loss recorded in 2010/2011.

The reduction is due to clubs reducing their pools of top players and cutting salaries, news agency ANP said.
Total premier division turnover reached €422m, up just 0.6% on the earlier season.
Results also improved in the first division, where the clubs made a combined loss of €4.3m, an improvement of 27% on the previous season.
‘We are heading in the right direction but we are not there yet,’ said premier division chief Frank Rutten. ‘It is positive to see club policy is beginning to pay off.’
