Freighter adrift off Zandvoort

A freighter which is drifting some two km off the coast of seaside resort Zandvoort will be towed to safety later on Monday.

Sea rescue experts decided to keep the ship where it is using a tugboat and its own anchors until the wind has gone down. Then a second tug will be used to tow it to safer waters, the NRC reported.
The 170 metre Ocean Victory from Panama hit a buoy on leaving IJmuiden port on Sunday evening and the chain became wrapped around the main screw propeller, setting the ship adrift.
Efforts to tow the ship to safety on Sunday night failed after a tugboat also got into difficulty. The ship is not carrying cargo and has a crew of 20 on board.
