Dutch squad was ‘not fit enough’ during European football event

The Dutch national football team, which crashed out of this year’s European Championships without winning a single game, was ‘not fit enough’, according to a football association evaluation.

‘What scientific research has shown us is that the players could have been fitter,’ the KNVB’s professional football director Bert van Oosteveen says in an interview with magazine Voetbal International. ‘This is confirmation of what I suspected. The players were not fit.’
Oranje, one of the finalists in the South African World Cup, had been a favourite to win the European title.
