Charitable donations rose 3% last year

Donations to charity rose by 3.1% last year, compared with 2010, the charitable fund raising organisation CBF said on Friday.

In total, people in the Netherlands donated almost €3.6bn to charity. Cancer charity KWF topped the fundraising list, followed by Unicef, the Red Cross, Worldwide Fund for Nature and Doctors without Borders.
Some 844 charities are registered with the CBF.
However, the increase in donations was not able to completely counteract the 4.6% drop in government subsidies last year, the organisation said.
