Actor Jeroen Willems dies, forcing Carré gala concert to be delayed

Tuesday 04 December 2012

A gala concert to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Amsterdam's Carre theatre has been cancelled following the death of one of the Netherlands' leading actors during rehearsals.

The concert was due to take place on Monday evening in the presence of queen Beatrix but has been delayed until later in the year after Jeroen Willems collapsed and died.

Willems, who has won numerous awards for his work, was 50 and suffered a heart attack.

His list of stage and film credits includes De Passievrucht, Brel (as Jacques Brel), Ocean's Twelve and Komt een vrouw by de doctor. In 2012 he won his second Golden Kalf for his role in the television film Cop vs Killer.
