Univé to pay damage claims for Haren riots

Insurance company Univé said on Tuesday it will pay all its clients’ claims for damage done at the Project X Haren riots, even damage that is not covered.

‘It was such an extreme situation we have decided to be accommodating with the claims,’ a spokeswoman told the press.
Univé has received 15 claims of damage to property and five to cars. Each claim will be checked and judged on its merits, said the company.
The police have received a total of 160 damage claims since the riots at the end of September. According to the insurance association, total compensation will reach several million euros.
The public prosecution department wants all convicted rioters to pay &euro500 for adults and €250 for youngsters into a special fund to pay for the damage. The case is currently being heard in the Leeuwarden court.
So far around 100 people have been arrested in connection with the riots, which broke out after a Facebook party invitation went viral.
