Social media used to sell illegal fireworks

Facebook, online salesrooms and blogs are an increasingly popular channel for selling extra powerful fireworks, Nos television reports on Monday.

A police taskforce which specialises in firework ‘bombs’ says social media sites by intermediaries set up deals at secret locations, with thousands of euros changing hands.
Some of the fireworks on offer are as ‘powerful as handgrenades’, the broadcaster says.
Police are warning parents to be extra alert. They also want a ban on the sale of large fireworks which are supposed to be restricted to professional shows.
The sale of fireworks in the Netherlands is strictly controlled and they may only be sold to the public by licenced dealers a few days before the New Year celebrations.
