One shot dead, another seriously injured at kickboxing gala

One man was shot dead and another, possibly his brother, seriously injured in a shooting incident at a kickboxing event in the Brabant village of Zijtaart on Sunday.

According to local media, two men became embroiled in a dispute which ended in a fight. A third man produced a gun and shot at the two who were fighting. The gunman then left the village hall where the fight was taking place, eyewitnesses said.
Nos television says the dead man is a 35-year-old kickboxing promoter.
The Telegraaf says it is unclear if other people were injured. Hundreds of people fled the building after the fight broke out and several children hid themselves under the ring, the Telegraaf said.
The kickboxing event, named The Battle of Zijtaart, started at around 14.00 on Sunday afternoon. It is the third time the event has taken place and around 300 people were in the audience.
Arrests
A number of people, possibly four, have since been arrested but it is not clear if the shooter is among them.
It is not the first time kickboxing events have ended in a fight, website nu.nl points out. In May 2011 one man ended up in intensive care after a kickboxing gala in Hoorn ended in a mass brawl.
Since 2010, local authorities have had the power to decide whether or not to allow fighting events. Amsterdam plans to ban them from council buildings and Rotterdam is also introducing restrictions. Hilversum has banned them altogether.
