6,500 motorists fined for just breaking 130kph speed limit

Since the introduction of a new 130 kph speed limit on some Dutch motorways, 6,500 motorists have been fined for driving one, two or three kilometres too fast, according to infrastructure ministry figures.

Parliament only backed the introduction of the higher speed limit on condition the margin of error in calculating how fast cars are going is smaller than on roads with a lower maximum speed.
This means speed cameras are triggered by cars driving at 136 kph, rather than 139kph.
The anti-immigration PVV had asked the ministry to quantify how many drivers had been caught out by the lower margin.
