Super-rich country houses targeted by same gang

Thursday 11 October 2012

Country houses owed by dozens of the Netherlands' richest people have been robbed by the same gang with the total haul running into millions of euros, according to RTL news.

The burglars are thought to be part of a group of 15 people from The Hague picked up at the beginning of this month after a major police investigation.

Each burglary was carried out the same way, RTL said. The burglars entered the house in the evening, before the alarms had been switched on. They then went through the bedrooms looking for valuables while the owners were still downstairs.

The burglaries have taken place all over the country and do not involve violence, RTL said.

RTL reporter Siebe Sietsma said the gang had been very cunning in its approach. 'They burgled houses, which is not a police top priority, and they were active all over the country to reduce the risk that individual police forces would discover a pattern,' he said.
