Sara Lee neglected Douwe Egberts, says DE chief executive
Saturday 27 October 2012
The amount of coffee in Senseo coffee pods was deliberately reduced to cut costs, by the company’s US owner Sara Lee, the Volkskrant reports on Saturday.
The claim was made by Michiel Herkemij, chief executive of coffee and tea group DE Master Blenders, which was hived off by Sara Lee earlier this year.
In the interview Herkemij says Sara Lee 'neglected and ignored' the coffee operations. 'They made a lot of money... In the last years they took coffee out of the pods. There was 7.5 grammes, they took half a gramme out.'
The new company has restored coffee volumes to their original level, he told the paper.

I always make the Turkish Coffee. Its the best coffee of world. And its better than the senseo because I use 10 gramms of coffee!
By Deniz Bilmen | 27 October 2012 8:46 PMI don't use coffee pods, they are a nice convenience, but they are expensive and discarding the little plastic containers is wasteful. I prefer to brew my own coffee using good quality freshly ground beans.
By Evji108 | 29 October 2012 2:41 AMI always use fair trade coffee and a coffee filter basket. I can decide the strength of my coffee and maybe save a tree by not buying filters.
By M | 29 October 2012 10:11 AMI use DE Master Blenders beans and grind my own.
