Mayors call for faster visas for Turkey

Tuesday 23 October 2012

The mayors of Rotterdam and Amsterdam are calling on parliament to speed up the issuing of visas to and from Turkey following their visit last week.

Ahmed Aboutaleb and Eberhard van der Laan say business people they spoke to during their visit complained about the slow process of applying for a visa. Turkish business people need to be able to visit their business partners in the Netherlands 'quickly and flexibly', say press reports.

The two mayors said their visit led to new contacts and concrete agreements. For instance, flights to and from Turkey will be increased in April 2013. According to Aboutaleb, two new companies want to locate to the Rotterdam port and will finalise a deal shortly.
